http://inEVE.net/
The inEvE Skills Showroom is a place where you can upload your character xml and have it ranked among all other eve players. inEvE contains over 4000 characters and is rapidly growing and those characters being constantly updated with over 700 updated / new characters every 48 hours. You'll enjoy viewing everyones skills and their path in becoming a more skilled eve character and also be able to share your own skill path in eve. By looking into what other people strong points are you'll also be able to better train your own characters. Features like ships flown, faction ships, skills and their levels, their ranks, racial and bloodline statistics of all the population and category rankings are just a few of the features that the site has. The site itself is built upon the community request and feature suggestions, for every new version a thread is started gathering ideas for new features and thoughts on the current ones. Many of them are updated in the new version. We have been enjoying a rapid development of the site by having a new site every couple months, I hope to be able to greatly improve that, including more features at a faster pace.
Current Development Thread
History
My involvement in the skills business was inspired by two events, the announcement of 50mil SP by Dr Caymus and the constant request for help in training by BIG members having to describe/type their skills to others for advice. I was driven to create yet another great tool for BIG, my past work in eve tools includes the website www.big-sales.net. I had a look at the xml and thought I could with a bit of work make a website that would allow people to upload their skills, at first I experimented with xml transformations into html, that worked well but it lacked the great things that could be done with that information, a "statistics" rankings came to mind right away. And so a parser for the xml was created and well tested, a couple bugs fixed, it's to date the parser that still powers the upload/update of inEvE.net, it parses the xml and inserts the information into a database for easy query. I then developed a web page that mimicked ccp's own character page, and also created the top10 rankings by skill category, and then added those two matrices by request. At the same time I was also a great fan of Dr Caymus' thread of Top 20 skills link, sadly he has stopped updating it since Jan 2007, we probably wouldn't be here now if it wasn't for him. The site progressed, features where added, bugs where fixed. And then I released a public version at that time located at http://www.big-sales.net/public/skills/ usage was extremely low at that time, but the site picked up and soon we where hitting 1000 characters :) Recently last year I decided that the project had grown to a size that it needed special attention, so it got a new home and a new domain http://inEvE.net .
Current Features see the changelog: http://inEvE.net/skills/changelog.php

The future
The site is currently growing at a very steady and rapid pace, I have had to do a few changes to address performance issues, but for a good while now it has been smooth sailing. The site development I would dare say is completely based on the feedback I get from everyone in my request for features posts, as long as feedback and community participation is here the site will continue to grown and evolve. One of the big things we're seeing is the integration with EVEMon [link] due to be released to the general public is a feature which allows you to directly update your characters to the website automatically. (No need to register with inEvE.net for that to work, it's up to you.) Also please see the current development thread for up to date information on the features being worked on in this new version and the completed ones here(striked features).
Infrastructure & Technical Nonsense
Currently infrastructure for growth is not a problem, the site almost has a full server for itself, not running much else there. Available contracted bandwidth is 100Mbits, hosted in one of the best Datacenters in Portugal. The server itself isn't something special but a decently good machine, P4 3.0Ghz HT, 1GB RAM, 250GB HDD SATA II. load average: 0.44, 0.50, 0.57 In this last 4 days the web server transfered 40.6GB of information. This is the last 24h bandwidth usage graph [link]. The database that contains the site information has 780 848 records and uses 42.3MB.
Security and Accuracy of the Information
I want to reassure you that it has always been my pledge to keep your information safe, I will never under any circumstance divulge any of your information. Your information (XML) when uploaded to the website is parsed and it's information stored in different tables of the database, the xml is automatically deleted by the webserver at the end of the upload and parse process. Another concern I'm being approached with is, the xml containing the name and character id of the other characters in the account, that information is not saved or even parsed, it's simply ignored and also I have to say there's no point in having it in the xml. Another common claimed security problem was the availability of your character id, I have hidden that number, but I would like to point out when you post on the eve-online forum your id is there, anyone can click your picture and see the character id in your character picture.
Services
If corporations or alliances wish to have their own private, password protected skills showroom, it is available for renting at 30mil / month. I offer the public site free of any charge or restriction, there are a few features that only apply to manage a corp or a private site, those are only available to corporations who rent a private copy of the skills showroom.

Unfortunatly it's caused by a database bug that i tought i had fixed a while ago, seems not. Work has been keeping me busy every day of the day until late night, but i'll try my best to fix it tonight.
My apologies.

I think i fixed it this time :| (i hope)
I feel like ccp by saying this, but this is a bug that only shows itself when the site is under heavy load. So i cannot reproduce it to see if is fixed or not.
I'm cleaning the ones i find, so you may see your character without skills, just upload again.
I will most likely be seeking volunteers to help check if no one is uploading fakes and to check these problems.

Yes the bug is still here :(
I'm at my 4th attempt to fix it :(
The problem is due to
- High load on the database server - Concurrency of updates (people having evemon in more then one computer uploading the same character)
My last attempt included making all the process in db transactions, but it didnt work ...
I have not given up :( please bear with me for a little longer.

There's a character in your database by the name of "Arckame", who appears to have 6,400,000 SP in learning.
Now, whilst I know there were bugs that allowed extra points to crop up in this category, I'm having a bit of a hard tim swallowing a 1,024,000 difference...it's also a little odd thatit's such a nice round number..and that the 1,024,000 difference is EXACTLY how many SP you would get from having one extra level 5, rank 4 skill.
Worth you having a check? I looked at the character sheet and there doesn't seem to be any double counting in it...maybe there's an error somewhere else?
He had 2 rank 1 skills trained with the skillpoints as if it was rank 3. I have cleared all his skills, he'll need to upload again.

Thx
:) It's just what the name says, each skill has a rank that determines how much skillpoints it has in every level, i just add the number of ranks. So training skills with higher ranks will make you rise on that stats.

Bad news, i have spent a good part of my weekend working on the Personal Stats, the objective was to offload the processing work to a new server. I volunteered a dell xeon 3.2ghz to the job, after automating everything i did a trial run, after 12 hours it was still calculating everyones personal stats. I reused the code on the webpage to generate the stats, but that's not working well, i have to take another approach instead of the individual approach (one by one) take a more all at once for every stat. Some of you might ask why do you need another server to calculate the personal stats, simply because it takes far too long to calculate it with so many people, over 100 seconds, and that's individually with the site operating normal, it slows everything down. And with more people viewing personal stats the problem gets worse.
Anyway all is not lost, this automated way of getting information across will still be used to get the ships pilots calculated/updated more often, this is another big cpu/time hog.
I'll try to get a new code out by tonight to calculate stats on a not individual case.

Edited by: Sara Dawn on 07/03/2007 15:23:06 The contest is finished, and we have our winner.
And the winner for the best ad is Lazaroth.
Here is the list of people and donations:
Darvus Laan 100k toxic martyr 20k Eefrit 100mil Genjou 1mil Kerr AVON 350mil Calumbacha 100mil Barbicane 50mil Mrmuttley 25mil Ray McCormack 100mil
For a total of: 726 120 000 ISK
As promised the split is going to be: 350mil for ccp, 15mil for a simple text ad, the winning ad 361 120 000 isk.
I was really hoping to get more donations in the order of 1 or 2mil each, with so many characters in the site, luckily there was a couple BIG donations like Kerr AVON who alone paid for the cost of having the ad on the magazine. a HUGE Thank You.
As for the ad, everyone will have to buy the next EON to see :) after the magazine is out for a week or two I'll release the ad for everyone to see.
I also would like to thank everyone who submitted their work, there was a couple other great ads, but this one simply blew me away :)

361,120,000 isk? that's a weird number, how about i be nice and turn that into 400mil? Meaning I can send another 38,880,000Isk. Unless of course you already paid the winner his price and don't want more isk flowing into your wallet. I can probably make that payment later today, when I log in.

I have implemented a locks system to the background processes to insure that on peak load times there's no possibility of having multiple of the same running at one time and so further decreasing site/server performance.

Due to the increasing problems ineve.net is going on a road trip, for the linux people here are the details:
the site easly reaches 10 requests / sec at peek times (when the site stops responding) and well over 150 simultaneous connetions in a "working state". the server load can go up to 40, and the server stops responding.
I'm going to move from the P4 3.0ghz 1GB ram 250gb sataII to new "yarrdware" I wonder if ccp want to donate their old servers. New Yarrrdware DB: Dell Xeon 3.2Ghz , 2GB Ram , 2x raid 0 15k rpm U320 scsi disks Webserver: AMD64 3200+ 1GB Ram Hopefully it'll bring back a decent/good performance so i can start rolling out features, these past weeks have been all damage control/optimizations all the time.

Looks great! But there is a small vertical gap at approx 3/5 of the screen width. I can't make out if it's intentional or not.
Here is a screenie of what it looks like for me.
(I'm running Opera 9.20, full screen at resolution 1920x1050)
It only puts the background color in the cell space, but like anything there's ways arround that. Wasnt intentional but is how it behaves, but there's ways to not have the gap, takes a bit more code.

I tried sending this to everyone but after the 2nd batch gmail thought that i had enough and doesn't let me send any more emails :|
Greetings Friend Pod Pilot,
I thought this to be a important update and didn't want to risk it going missed by you.
It was requested by many of you that it should be possible to update your character corporation and photo, something that until now was not possible without writing to me.
This is to address the following situations:
- Character changes corporation and should not still keep having privileged access to members skills or the member list - Character changes corporation and wants to have privileged access to new corp members skills and the member list - Character changes his portrait and wants that change reflected on the inEVE photo
Photos are cached locally due to past lack of reliability of the CCP image server we now cache character photos.
The Character information is mainly for the feature where you can list fellow corp members and have special access to their detailed skill information (something you can set using the settings section). Due to security concerns i chose not to use the information provided by the XML , instead i get the information directly from the eve client on registration and now update it getting the information from the eve client and with your authentication.
What is required on your part is that you keep your character information up to date, you can do that by going to http://ineve.net in your IGB and selecting "update", you will need to set the site to TRUSTED and then verify your identity by providing your character name and password (password for the ineve.net website), and that's it, you only need to do this at least once every 30 days. If for some reason you do not want or are able to do this within 30 days of the last update, your ability to login to the website is temporarily disabled until you do a update.
This DOES NOT limit you to update your skills (except if you have it set to require authentication for xml update) or do anything else that you do/use the website while not logged in.
This restriction will be put in place on the 12th of May, giving you aprox. 2 weeks to do your first update.
Hoping for your understanding as this is the most secure way possible to do this with current available eve resources.
I leave to everyone that wasnt able to view the latest issue of EON a jpeg of the full page inEVE ad that was on the magazine.

This has passed from just people being silly to idiotic.
It's very rare that a day goes by that i dont have emails or evemails from people complaining that:
a) "I put" their characters in my website without permission b) I hacked their computer and put their character in the site c) They don't know how they got there d) And when they see the registration process for the website complain that they wont give me their eve password e) And now even the ingame character update , I get messages saying sorry they wont put their eve login/password.
a,b,c) Is caused by people that clicked the ineve.net sync in evemon that comes disabled by default ; theyr friends have their accounts in evemon and activate it ; or their friends just uploaded their xmls and told the owners to check the site to see their chars
d,e) No where do i ask for your eve login and password, it's like any other website on the internet where you register, but in the case the login has to be your character name, the password can be anything you want And i expecting people to "get confused" specifically say in my email "verify your identity by providing your character name and password (password for the ineve.net website)".
Half of the people are polite, but the other half are just rude, they shout, they insult me, and basicly I'll just start deleting those.
I see myself getting petitioned for hacking soon because people keep complaining i hacked them and put their character online.
I might seem funny but it's really not.
(dont mind me just blowing off steam)

I will be implementing a search for blog title & content but I still do not feel comfortable providing a search for character names. Everyone feel free to make me see the error of my ways :)
Imagine a discussion somewhere, discussing a blog from someone on ineve. No one has the link anymore, and the character isn't in any top 10 - how do you find it?
How do you tell someone to look something up if they can't search for it properly? :)
If they know the character name they dont need to search, they just click the first letter of that character and find it on the list. If they just know the subject of the blog, they can use the blog search (that will be available soon).

Technically it's a very simple feature to implement.
I would like to hear more people's opinions on it.

You need to update your profile using the IGB.

Running the database on another server
Hello,
as you might have noticed ineve.net is running MUCH more speedy since last night this is due to the move from the old Dell Xeon box to this other one, the current dedicated mysql server is a ASUS 1U server with a Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6400 @ 2.13GHz (Core 2 Duo) , 2x sata 250gb raid1 hardrives and 2GB RAM.
The reasons why it's faster can be mostly attibuted to the old server only having 1GB of ram that i could only partially give to mysql and the mysql version due to the database being lightly used by another applicated that needed mysql 4, I was forced to use mysql 4 on the old server. On this new box it's running Mysql 5 that along with having the whole 2GB dedicated just for it makes us all very happing with the site humming along very nicely.
This is still not the final location as i have the ibm dual opteron 8gb ram, etc ready and waiting for rails :| to start using that one, but in the mean time this will enable us to be ready for the EVE API Exports data.

Ahoy,
i have had little communication with the community and have used Ray to transmit a few messages, but I'm now able once again to resume to more frequent posting.
As for news, have a look in my blog for things like:
- domain renewal as part of my commitment - being approach by many different parties of dogdy people trying to capitalize on eve (make money) offers to be bought by ridicule plans, isk selling schemes the works. And I'm proud to say I wont be doing any of that. - Launched a new skills section, with some info I wanted to put out a long time ago but never got around to it. - Changed the way xml updates where being done, (gave up on concurrency, and went to a sequential aproach) this in turn solved all the previous performance problems, that where all related to the updates - I am aware of a few bugs, about syncing and etc - Atm i'm working on a new section of the website being a part of it made with code by someone else, I'll give appropriate credit when it's launched, and it'll be added to the about. - I have started using a TODO/Tasks software to keep myself more organized by objectives - I have a huge list of things there already - The site is now at 45.3k characters and going strong, with the performance fix we're good for many tens of thousands more - Pagination is a high priority in my Task/Todo List, something that many people have asked me before (and no as it is now it's not a performance problem, it just hangs your browser because it's a big page, it doesn't affect the server much more then any other page) - I have been planning on expansions and other things, all on my Task list, lets see what i can put out :)
I hope to be here for you more now, that i have something sorted out that made me take forum breaks often.

Howdy,
worked with Brad Stone of EVEmon this afternoon in a joint effort to try and find out what the problem was, turns out the problem is on my side :( and to make it more "fun" it doesn't seem to happen when i do it manually and only when it happens to be run using crontab, I've implemented another way of doing updates my 3 tests with 3 characters where successful, I'm waiting trial by fire with the ineve users. :) let me know if it works. (note: some skillpoint difference may occur)

That comes from the latest db data export from ccp, and the implants have a flag called published=1 or published=0, that's how I'm showing available or not. Not sure if I should leave it or tweak it manually, opinions?

Originally by: Akita T I see some... *cough* weird effects when using the EVE-Mon "upload to ineve" feature ever since the EVE API version of EVE-Mon... and no, it's not a "character settings" thing, I have all limitations removed from the ineve login options.
For instance, the top side will currectly list skillcount and skillpoints total, update time and even all plugged-in implants... BUT, the current skill in training is not mentioned... or even worse, the ACTUAL skill list will not be the current skill list at all, but some (seemingly random) older skill list. This doesn't always happend, but more often than not, it does... sometimes takes weeks to see the actual skill list. I end up manually uploading the XLS from "My Character" from time to time if I want a true up-to-date skill list.
Any idea what's going on ?
Can you confirm this is happening now, or up to the last weekend? Have not had any reports of problems since last weekend.

Thank you for a complete bug report :D
So it's updating your SP correclty but not showing a skill in training? That's correct. The new xml format has the current skill in training in a diferent xml, and that's not the full skill one, I only receive that one.

Originally by: Akita T Ah, so it's actually EVE-Mon's fault, sending out raw skill-list XLS instead of "reconstructed" full XLS. Gotcha
xml not xls, it's no ones fault really, the old format flagged the skill in training, the new format has the skill in training in a separate xml file.

Originally by: Arthalion Thoidon Just noticed you can now check attributes on ineve.net, looks good. Just one thing: I noticed that one of the learning skills for memeory isn't taken into account. I get this info: ( 8 base + 5 skills ) * 1.10 = 14.30 even though I've trained all learning skills to lvl5, so it should say ( 8 base + 10 skills ) * 1.10 = 19.80.
And then There are 2 chars with weird skills: this one: ancoring I and corp management II and 776k sp? I don't think so and this one has a couple of skills that don't even exist.
Hi,
thank you :) Should be fixed now, and those characters I have confirmed to have fake information deleted.

Edited by: Sara Dawn on 08/10/2007 00:55:11 Hello,
I have to confess I was not expecting this, there's a character out there with more SP then Dr Caymus, tonight a new #1 appeared on ineve.net with over 2mil SP more then Dr Caymus, I have checked his skills, his date of birth, etc, and all points to be legit.
Admiral IceBlock
what a surprising night.

Hi,
I'm the process of verifying his skillpoints with the basic api key, unfortunately by the request of the person I had to use a 3rd party. The 3rd party has received the api key, and will let me know tomorrow.
Not to worry the 3rd party is Chribba so we can be assured that the 92mil will be verified. The character reputation seems solid, I would ask everyone to refrain until I can post the result tomorrow.

Hi,
here's the result of the the basic api key verification.
The character Admiral IceBlock does not have 92mil skillpoints and neither is he above Dr Caymus in skillpoints.
Before this confirmation I did a check on the character age, and checked all his skills confirming the amounts of skillpoints, ranks and levels, in each skill, everything seemed legit, also the character being the ceo of a VC corporation combined with the knowlege there are characters with more SP then Dr C. according to a old dev blog.
I would also like to thank the people who contacted me and posted here on the forum with their math :) you guys are the "skills police" :) and make sure we all continue to have accurate information as possible.
There has been in the past people trying to be #1, but all of them where clearly fakes, this one was a different case.
In light of this incident I'm going to push live the API key update this week adding a "Verified" tag to each character profile.

Woot!
This is great! Gone will be the days of fake chars!
WTG Sara!
That does indeed sound good.
Just got one question, is there anything we, the skill junkies using ineve, hwill have to do to get our chars verified? I'm asking this because I never used my API-key for anything yet.
It'll be as simple as adding the API key information in "Profile" and clicking "enable", that's it. After that the site will regularly download your character skills xml from eve, and you'll no longer be able to update using evemon or the old manual xml. At any time you can go to the "Profile" and disable it, by disabling it, the verified will disappear and you'll be again able to udpate using evemon or the old manual xml.
Note: the api fields still are not publicly visible, I will make a announcement this week when it's ready.

Originally by: Leska Helios Sounds good. Got another problem atm which occured first yesterday. Everytime EvEMon updates the skill bars are missing. You can see the skills and skillpoints, but the bars indicating the level are empty. XML upload works fine.
Anyway sounds like the new version wouldn't need EvEMon anymore so this is not a major problem i guess.
Evemon support will always continue. I think the problem you'r experiencing is realted to a proxy you have filtering the images, to your browsers cache, etc. There's no relating to evemon and the skill bars.

Look at it, i have tested it on 3 different machines in 2 different networks now and i won't see the bars on all of them for my char. Unless i log on to eve-o and generate the xml und upload it, then everything is fine. Every other char i checked i can see them.
Everytime i synchronise using evemon the bars are empty. But the update-timestamp changes, so it should have received something? I also tried to install evemon on another machine in another network and synchronise from there: same problem.
The xml's are deleted when they are parsed, what I'm guessing is that i'm not able to correctly parse the xml for some reason, you wouldnt be russian (or similar) or japanese/chinese or some other more "diferent" language? I'm asking this because my only guess atm is that there's some localized characters in the xml that's causing the general problem. Evemon is used by many dozens of thousands to update their skills, never encountered your problem until today.

Continuing the good rhythm of development of late, after introducing updates using the API, as promised you can now use the API to create your account on the site.
The process is very simple:
Stage 1: You enter your API User ID and Key and it's validated
Stage 2: You select the character you want the account for, type your password and email. Please use a valid email, as that is used for password recovery.
And that's it, very straightforward.
Enjoy
(Working on more goodies stay tuned)

Skill in training (with API) is the next thing to finish.
It's being updated hourly, we'll see if it causes problems when many thousands are using it, if does we can adjust it.
Also the implants db table needs redoing, and those changes made also to the other 2 update methods.

Can only think of one thing. Another top 10: The number of ships people can fly. Faction and non faction ships counted together. But that's just me and probably because I can fly them all and want to know what my lead on other people is.
That would make a list with a really large amount of people being able to fly the same number of ships. You'd probably have 2 or 3 people with a diferent number on top 3, and then from 4th to 50th with the same number, from 51st to 500th the same number. I dont think it would make a good stats.

Yeah, but it would be nice to have the option to list everyone and only those that are API verified
It would provide a list where we will be sure that there is no fake and i think it will also make more people go the API way
That's very work intensive, there's two ways to do that, one is copy the code apart and make the changes on everything, creating all support resources, etc, the other is to edit all the code to make it do both, and a way to chance between them. Atm I'm not willing to undertake this big change, as i want to make some other things. But it's something we'll talk about when we have a bigger percentage of API users.
Sorry guys

Hi,
these issues are related,
the unpublished skills do not have a bit of information on them on the xml, that was what caused the missing level. Because they are unpublished they are not available to the api and the api doesnt calculate the level because of that. Regarding the Salvage Drone I have that skill on one of my characters, I checked my API XML it's not there. Skill ID: 3440
I fixed the level problem, but with regards to the unpublished skills I think CCPs thinking of getting rid of them all together in the future.
